A magnificent short trek into the heart of Dolpo and its culture
Isolated and secluded from the outside world by spiraling high mountain passes and restricted entry, mysterious Dolpo had long captured the imagination of hardy travellers. Phoksundo Lake, cutting one of the deepest gorges in Nepal, serves as its cultural heartland. Beginning from Juphal the trail heads north along the Suli Gad River to the remote hamlet of Ringmo on the southern end of Phoksundo Lake. Inhabited by people practicing the pre-Buddhist religion called Bon, Ringmo was the setting for Eric Valli's Oscar nominated epic 'Caravan'.
